Parallel Investments

Question: Help Math Questions!!?

Solve and check the equation for x.

1. 5/x+6 + 2/x^2+7x+6 = 3/x+1

Word Problem!

1. Kevin earned $165 interest for 1 year on an investment of $1500. At the same rate, what amount of interest would be earned by an investment of $2500.

Word Problem

2. The combined resistance of two resistors R1 and R2 in a parallel circut is given by the formula:

Rt= 1/1/R1 + 1/R2

Simplify the formula.

Answer: 5/x+6 + 2/x^2+7x+6 = 3/x+1 need parentheses, but assuming you meant 5/(x+6) + 2/(x^2+7x+6) = 3/(x+1)
multiply everything by (x^2+7x+6) to get
5(x+1) +2 = 3(x+6)
5x+5+2 =3x+18
2x = 11
x= 11/2

Assuming simple interest
165= 1500x
x= 11%
y= 2500(11%)
y=275$

1/R= 1/(R1) + 1/(R2)
Can’t simplify much more. (common physics equations are often used in math, so for future reference, print out a list of some so if asked to simplify, you can just look on the sheet.)
