Fidelity Investments Layoff

Question: Starting a new job at Fidelity Investments, neone have any personal experience working for them?

I accepted an offer to work as a part time customer service associate at the newly built campus in Covington, Kentucky. I’m a recent grad with a BA. in history and heading back this fall for accounting courses. I’ve heard from somebody they’re notorious for layoffs. I’m sure one is bound to run into this at any company, but I guess I’m asking how cut throat is it? I’m not putting all my eggs in one basket with this company since I’m keeping another Part time Job for now. Im also planning to take the CPA exam in the future and earn a Masters in Accounting within the next five years. I’d figure this would be a good place to start and get experience. I’m only expecting to work here for about a year or two in this position until either I would theoretically get a full time Job there or find a job somewhere else. Any response whether positve or negative would be of most help. Any pointers to reduce ones chance of a quick layoff would be most helpful too.

Answer: Any job you take – particularly right out of your college years – will be as positive – or negative – as you “see” it.

Pour yourself into the position – the company is a leader in the industry. My Fidelity contact is one of the finest and most professional people I know (Atlanta office). Their office staff / customer service is exemplary.
